The two main advantages of a unit-bearing are ease of removal, and length of the hub protruding through the wheel. Our Unit-Bearing Eliminator is removable in the same fashion as a unit bearing (as a complete assembly by removing the 4 fasteners from the knuckle) or can be serviced on the vehicle like a traditional spindle and hub. Our kit uses Dana 60 spindle bearings and seals. Our hub is 2″ longer than a Ford unit bearing, and can accommodate a locking-hub or a drive-flange.

The spindle is machined from 4140 quenched and tempered; the hub is machined out of 7075 billet aluminum.

MESA, AZ – AUGUST 18, 2010: FAST-Aid is excited with the generous response for the families of the casualties and the injured at the MDR California 200 off road race accident that happened last weekend. The entire Off Road Community has rallied together to raise over $107,000 within the week, but that is still $75,000+ away from reaching their estimated need to properly assist the families, injured and those in need of emotional support if they were at the scene of the accident.

“We are humbled by the donations including large sums of $50,000 from Mango Racing and $10,000 from 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers, and appreciate everything all the way down to the $5 donations. Off Road clubs and companies are rallying together to form fundraising events across the country. The off road community is tight knit, and they are certainly rallying and showing their positive support,” stated Jared Tetzlaff, President of FAST-Aid.

The funds are being allocated to the grieving families in this particular order. “Our priority is helping with immediate funeral expenses, and we are offering the services of Racers for Christ Off-Road Chaplain Steve Hanson to officiate the services if they do not have a family clergy-member to perform the funerals,” stated Tetzlaff. Second, will be to assist with Medical expenses/bills that need to be paid as a result of lost work due to injuries suffered in the crash. Third level of assistance will be for the Children of the deceased. Additionally, we will be setting up Education/Trust funds for the children, which will be available at 18 years old for education or 25 years old if they choose not to use it for education. It is also important to FAST-Aid to be able to assist all those directly involved in the accident by helping arrange for counseling/mental well-being to prevent possible PTSD and other long-term psychological effects of this tragic accident.

FAST-Aid, similar in nature to the Red Cross, is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing financial, educational and personal assistance to injured racers, support teams and their families as well as ensures the necessary support is in place to complete a thorough recovery and rehabilitation from motor sports racing incidents.

Blue Torch Fab is sponsoring a hill climb competition at Morris Mountain ORV park in Heflin, AL during the 4th annual RBD event.  The competition will be held on the infamous Los Primos trail.  The idea is simple, fastest to the top wins.  $1,000 to the winner!*  No classes, this is a “run what ya brung” event.  Competitors will be given three attempts at the climb. An attempt is considered over when the vehicle completes the trail, breaks/rolls, or times out. At this time the competitor may get back in line.  There will be no winching!  The course will begin at the bottom of Los Primos entrance trail, and finish at the top of the ledges.

Safety requirements:
DOT approved Helmet.
Minimum of four-point harness
Roll cage

Event begins at 9am, Saturday, November 27th.  Competitors must be in line at 8:30 for last minute tech.

The Low Life Chassis is a 4 seat chassis. The rear is designed for a Jeep TJ style bench seat.  I recommend using a PRP Seat for this application. The chassis is fabricated from 1.75 OD x .120 DOM tube for the main structure. The Low Life Chassis has a rear bumper built into the chassis which makes a great step on the rear of the buggy.  The rocker tubes are boat sided up 2 inches from the ones on the Fusion Chassis.  The rear mid rail that wraps around the rear of the buggy rises two inches as it leaves the “B” hoop to give more clearance for tires. The front of the chassis is a different that the Fusion in a few ways.

On the front of the chassis we left the front fenders off of the chassis in order to get a much lower ride height.  We also opened up the firewall to allow the motor to be mounted much further back.  The engine location being back into the cab area can allow the front axle to come up in front of the crank pully.  If you are trying to keep the ride low then this will be something to consider.  I recommend running a HP Dana 60 front if you are shooting to be low.  With a HP you will run the upper links straight and the lowers angling in toward the transfer case. With a low pinion you will have issues with the driveshaft if you try this.

You may notice the lack of a grill hoop on this chassis.  We left the grill hop off in order to allow more options for this chassis.  For this particular chassis it will be getting a custom made 70’s Chevy Blazer style hood and grille made by BTF. You can make many different sheet metal combos work with this set up and then build the tube to fit.  We refer to it as a “builders chassis”. The roof is also different when compared to the Fusion chassis.  The Low Life Chassis has a flat roof.  This makes it much easier to fabricate a roof panel for the buggy.

This chassis can be used with many different engines including big blocks.  Tire sizes can range from 35″ – 54″.  The wheel base can range from 100 inch to what ever depending on tire size.

Introducing Blue Torch Fabworks’ new Dana 60 Stud Kit to work in conjunction with our BTF high-steer arms. Many high-steer arms are installed using grade 8 bolts.  The advantage of using studs is in applications where large pieces need to be fastened to cast parts that see reassembly semi-frequently. High-steer arms to cast steel knuckles are an example of this. The reason of using studs is they can be permanently installed in the cast part to reduce the chance of damaging or stripping the internal threads of the knuckle. 

            Our new BTF Stud Kit is custom made specially for us.  These ½” studs are made from 8740 steel, Grade LC7 with a hard anodised coating that leaves a strong, smooth finish. For reference, LC7 is several levels above Grade 8.  The LC7 studs boast a yield strength of 105,000 min. PSI and a tensile breaking strength of 125,000 min. PSI.

20″ KMC XD Armour wheels

Blue Torch Fab’s JK was originally purchased with the intent to begin production of JK bumpers and fenders, amung other things.   It rolled into the shop and was torn apart with less than 1000 miles on the odometer.  First the factory suspension was ditched in favor of a long-arm 6.5″ lift BDS suspension kit that would make room for the 40″ BFG KM2s mounted on 20″ KMC XD Armour wheels. The prototype front bumper was designed for the Warn 9.0rc.  It  incorporates the factory fog lamps to the center of the bumper, recessed and out of harms way.  It is made from high-strength 3/16 steel, and 1 3/4″ .120 tube. This particular front bumper will be getting a few minor modifications before production. 

40" KM2 tucks easily into the BTF tube fender.

 The tube fenders were designed with function in mind. They will accomidate up to a 40″ tire. The fenders are made from 1 1/2″ .120 wall tube, then covered with 1/8″ plate. The rear bumper is clean and simple.  It was designed so that up to a 37″ tire would fit mounted on the factory tire carrier. Plans for a swing-out tire carrier are coming soon.  The JK won’t see much trail time before getting torn down again for 1-ton axles, coilovers, and a 6.1 Hemi!

Here at Blue Torch Fab we have two Fab School graduates working for us. Jey Clegg and Josh Rock are two of our top fabricators.  Jey graduated the Fab School in 2007,  after graduating he moved back to the east coast to work here at BTF.  He has been our master fabricator, and leading projects like the Project FireTruck we are building for the US Fire and Aviation Operations department. All of which is thanks in part to the skills and knowledge he developed at the Fab School.  Josh Rock is our newest fabricator, and is already proving to be a valuable member of the BTF team. He has just recently graduated the Fab School and moved here just a few months ago.  The Fab School is producing very skilled and knowledgeable fabricators who are able to work at the highest levels of any industry.

8' Utility Service Bed

The truck is now in the process of being transformed into a chase/work truck for our race car.  First order of business was to replace the bed with an 8’ utility service, as well as changing to a single rear wheel set up. 

20" American Racing XD series Addict wheels

To convert to SRW we used hub spacers in the rear to mount our black 20”  XD series Addict wheels.  For tires we chose LT325/80R20 BTF All-Terrains that measure about 36” tall.  To clear the tires we chose a BDS 4.5″ suspension lift. The truck will also be getting a custom roof/bed rack to mount all of the equipment needed during a race.  Miller Welders will be coming on board and providing BTF with all the necessary welding equipment we will need.
